Vote for Broadstairs in the Great British Beach Awards

Local people are being asked to support Broadstairs in this year’s Great British Beach Awards.

Viking Bay has been named alongside seven other beaches all around the UK coastline in the annual competition, run by Cadbury. People can vote online at the Great British Beach Awards website although each person can only vote once. Margate Main Sands was the runner-up in this competition in 2010.

The shortlisted nominations were compiled by a panel of experts, who looked at what makes a British seaside resort stand out. Amongst the beaches that Viking Bay is competing against are Weymouth in Dorset, Southport in Lancashire and Robin Hood’s Bay in Yorkshire.

Cllr. Alasdair Bruce, Cabinet Member for Partnerships and Tourism (Thanet District Council) , said: “We all know how beautiful Viking Bay is and how many visitors it attracts to our area each year. Now the beach needs your votes. It would be wonderful for it to be crowned as the best beach in Britain in this competition, especially as we all know that it is one of the UK’s best.”

Voting continues until Thursday 30 June.
