Uncle Vanya Comes to The Marlowe Studio
A new interpretation of Chekhov’s classic Uncle Vanya, comes to The Marlowe Studio this month.
Inspired by the novel, Vanya tells the story of four people depressed and desperate with a whole lot of desire. Presented by The Underground Theatre Company, a new and emerging Kent-based company, it is both funny and powerfully moving.
Artistic Director Felicity Wilson established Underground after graduating from the University of Kent in July with a First Class Masters Degree in Drama and Theatre. She received the Stage 4 Achievement Award for attaining the highest average marks in her year.
Felicity said: “My aim with Underground is to make theatre inspiring, entertaining and truthful. I am extremely excited about directing Vanya, my first professional production, and collaborating with The Marlowe Studio.
“Vanya, written by Sam Holcroft, provides an innovative look at the fight to establish meaningful relationships in an isolated community and questions whether in a world influenced by individualism, we have lost our power to truly connect with each other.”
Vanya, which has original songs and live music from Kent singer/songwriter Emily Yates, is in The Marlowe Studio at 8pm from Thursday 8 to Saturday 10 November. Tickets are £5 from the Box Office on 01227 787787 or at marlowetheatre.com.
