Get creative at Creative Stitches and Hobbycrafts

Have you always wanted to take up a creative craft but never known where to start?  Then don’t miss the fantastic Creative Stitches and Hobbycrafts shows which are coming to Glow, Bluewater for the very first time in 2012! Make next year the year you learn a new craft and embrace ‘handmade and personalised’.

The show, which is taking place between 2-5 February 2012, will showcase over 200 exhibitors offering the very latest products, ideas and innovations in the world of creative craft including knitting, sewing, jewellery making, quilting, cardmaking and papercraft, plus much more besides.  Experts will be on hand to give their top tips and advice to those exploring a new craft, while all visitors can also enjoy a FREE programme of Quick & Easy Workshops and Talks each day of the show.

If you are a Downton Abbey fan, you will love the beautiful capsule collection of dresses on display from the hit ITV series.  Written by award winning writer Julian Fellowes, Downton Abbey has captured the hearts of the nation with some of the finest examples of Edwardian costume splendour.  Featuring an exquisite collection of some of the most iconic outfits from the first series, each costume shows the exquisite needlework and complex craftsmanship that went into their intricate design.  The collection includes dresses worn by Dame Maggie Smith (Dowager Countess of Grantham), Elizabeth McGoven (Countess of Grantham), Penelope Wilton (Isobel Crawley) and the three daughters, Lady Mary, Lady Edith and Lady Sybil Crawley.

The show will host the ‘Above and Below the Waves’ international knitting project which is raising money for the RNLI’s Train One – Save Many Campaign.  Measuring an enormous 9×6 metres, this stunning display includes a 3D walk-through tunnel with knitted beaches, waves and all the creatures that lurk beneath the waves.  Make sure you pop along and dip your toes in the woolly sea – this once in a lifetime experience has to be seen to be believed! The Quilters’ Guild of the British Isles’ new collection will be continuing the theme of costume dramas with The Romance of Words display, which is helping to celebrate the 200th anniversary of Jane Austen’s ‘Sense and Sensibility’.  Embracing the theme of romance in the written form, each quilt has captured the imagination of the maker and presents literal and lateral interpretations of the tender subject.

Evoke memories from your childhood with the Glimpses of Childhood embroidery display, showcasing the best entries from the prestigious Stitch/Madeira 2011 competition that  was judged at the Fashion Embroidery and Stitch show in March 2011.  Depicting everything from Dorothy, Toto and the Cowardly Lion to Rupert Bear, climbing trees and family days out at the seaside, this is one display that will be sure to make you feel young at heart!

Poetry in Stitches will continue the collaboration of words and craft with the last round of this ever-popular project from the National Needlework Archive.  Inspired by poetry, textile artists have been asked to combine the two forms to complement each other.  This exhibit will feature some of the best and truly stunning interpretations.

Professional artists Jeremy Ford and Matthew Palmer will be on hand to offer advice in the Artists in Action area, where you will also be able to take Pastel and Watercolour workshops.  Other demonstrators include mixed media artists Kim Thittichai and Isobel Hall, machine embroidery expert Wendy Dolan, jewellery artist Clare John and polymer clay artist Birdy Heywood.

Make sure you visit the very first Creative Stitches and Hobbycrafts shows at Glow, Bluewater. You will leave racing home to try your hand at a new craft, laden with all the latest supplies and expert knowledge.
