Biggest Balloon Fiesta In Britain Comes To Kent

balloonThe skies over Kent look set to host one of the biggest displays of hot air balloons in Europe this autumn.

It was announced earlier this summer that after a two year absence the Southern Model Fest was making a welcome return to the county on 14th and 15th September 2013, but in its new home of Headcorn Aerodrome.

Organisers of the model extravaganza – Heritage Events are promising that the return of the Southern Model Fest will be bigger than ever.

Event Organiser, Colin Hitchins said:
“This year’s Southern Model Fest really will be firing on all cylinders. The event has grown and is so much more than models and aircraft now. We are really very excited and proud to announce that the event will boast 2013’s biggest display of hot air balloons in the UK. Until recently it was widely regarded that Bristol’s Balloon Fiesta was the biggest, however we will certainly be staging something more substantial, thanks to our colleagues at Skybus ballooning at Headcorn Aerodrome.”

Colin added: “We will have some fantastic shaped balloons from beer cans to a Trivial Pursuit Board as well as the colourful and traditional shapes. Visitors will be treated to three different displays which include the magnificent ‘Night Glow’ – it really will be such a spectacular sight.”

The Southern Model Fest is expected to attract over 12,000 visitors including families and model enthusiasts alike, making it one of the largest shows of its kind in the country.

This family favourite event has something for everyone from planes and helicopters to boats, cars and tanks. There will also be full size aero display on both days including the exciting Red Arrows syncro pair complete with smoke system.

Colin Hitchins said: “With the huge choice of models at the Southern Model Fest we hope to inspire some of the younger audience away from their computer remote controls and on to a car, plane or boat remote control.”

He added: “Headcorn Aerodrome is famous for having a unique mix of aviation and we will take it a stage further with model aircraft, full size aircraft displays, hot air balloons and parachuting all choreographed to produce an exciting dynamic aerial display.”

Heritage Events also have a big surprise in store too. Without giving too much away, there will be a few very special guests at this year’s event – guess Who? Details of the surprise visitors celebrating their 50th anniversary will be announced in the coming weeks.
