Planning Officer for Ashford Borough Council plans life as a priest

A local minister and part time Landscape Planning Officer for Ashford Borough Council has been ordained by the Archbishop of Canterbury.

Linda Cross who has lived in the Wye area for 27 years was ordained as a priest at a ceremony in Canterbury Cathedral in July.

She will continue to serve her curacy as an ordained local minister in the group of eight parishes around Wye whilst  working for the council.

Linda lives with her husband and children and comes from a family with deep Christian roots. Her great grandparents were missionaries in China and members of the family were interned in prisoner of war camps by the Japanese during the Second World War.

Living in vicarages as a child she enjoyed the delights of rural life. Linda said: “I have happy memories of my school days, brownies and bell ringing in the company of my best friend at the time Jo Brand who went on to become a top comedian!”

For the last year she has been working as a deacon and now she will be able to exercise her priestly ministry at baptisms, weddings and funerals in local churches around Wye.
