New top team at the Tourism Society

Sandra Matthews-Marsh has been elected vice-chairman of the Tourism Society, the professional membership organisation for the industry with more than 1,000 members in the UK and worldwide.

Mrs Matthews-Marsh, chief executive at Visit Kent, will be working with the society’s new chairman David Curtis-Brignell, for the coming year to drive up standards of professionalism across all areas of the industry – public, private and voluntary.

Both have been active members of the society for some time, and Mr Curtis-Brignell has
previously served as chairman. He also chaired the first English Tourism Week, which included the My Kent Big Weekend 2012 as a hallmark event.

Mrs Matthews-Marsh said: “I am honoured to have been elected to work with David and to drive forward the work of the Tourism Society which promotes the highest levels of training and professionalism. The society is committed to looking in detail at the many complex challenges tourism businesses, organisations and destinations face in a highly competitive international marketplace.”

Mr Curtis-Brignell, said: “Sandra’s longstanding commitment to the tourism industry, and her tremendous enthusiasm and drive, will be great assets for the society during the coming year as we launch new industry programmes and initiatives to support our members.”
