Gareth Johnson, Member of Parliament for Dartford, visited Bluewater on Friday, May 11, to celebrate the achievement of a key milestone in the multi-million pound redevelopment of the Wintergarden, Bluewater’s family dining village.
Gareth joined Robert Goodman, Bluewater’s General Manager, Tim Hollands, Assistant General Manager, and members of the project management and construction teams to mark the completion of the pouring of 200,000 litres of concrete that will support the Wintergarden’s new floor.
Gareth was taken on a tour of the Wintergarden to see first hand the extent of the changes underway. In addition to a completely new design, which is creating different seating areas to cater for a range of visitors, from families to groups of friends, the number of seats in the Wintergarden is being increased by 50% to over 1,000. Ten leading world food brands will be represented in the
“new Wintergarden”, including a totally new purpose built restaurant overlooking the lake. The work, which began in January, will finish in the autumn.
Commenting on his visit to Bluewater, Gareth Johnson MP, said: “It is very exciting to see Bluewater evolving once again. The redevelopment of the Wintergarden joins the Plaza and Glow in broadening Bluewater’s already extensive offer, not only for visitors from throughout the South East, but for the immediate local community.
“I am also delighted, but not surprised, that Bluewater remains committed to creating other benefits for the community through this project, including employment and training.”
Robert Goodman, Bluewater’s General Manager, added: “The achievement of this milestone brings the opening of the Wintergarden, which is being transformed, one step closer to reality.
“It could not have been accomplished, however, without the hard work and ingenuity of the construction team, and the support of both our retailers and visitors.”
Over 100 members of Bluewater’s management team and hosts were also given a behind-the-scenes look at the Wintergarden on May 11, with an on-site briefing and tour.
