Judges named for Kent Design & Development Awards

The panel of experts tasked with judging the Kent Design & Development Awards to help the county celebrate the design excellence of the county’s property and construction industry, has been appointed.

Brian Horton lo resThe judging panel, chaired by Brian Horton, director of Horton Strategic, includes architectural, construction and design, housing and regeneration, as well as civil and structural engineering experts.

The judges include James Robinson, the South’s director of Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), who has extensive experience in the design and construction industry. He is joined by Chris Lamb, director of Design South East, an organisation that offers design support for local authorities, developers and communities to promote a better built environment.

Chris Clark, director of CTP Consulting Engineers, and Carolyn McKenzie, sustainability and climate change manager at Kent County Council, will also be judging the entries.

Brian Horton said: “I am delighted we have secured the considerable expertise and experience of this panel.

“At the heart of the Kent Design & Development Awards is the fact that applicants are judged by their peers and they are therefore able to fully understand the challenges to be met when creating design and construction excellence in the county.”

Each judge will be tasked with shortlisting the entrants for the awards’ five categories: Civils and Infrastructure; Commercial, Industrial and Retail; Environmental Performance; Public Buildings – Education and Community; and Residential – Major and Minor. The ultimate trophy for Project of the Year, sponsored by DHA Planning will then be selected from among the category winners.

Jointly organised and sponsored by DHA Planning, Kent County Council, and leading PR and marketing agency Maxim, the Kent Design & Development Awards take place every two years and celebrate the design excellence of the county’s property and construction industry.

The individual category awards are also supported by CTP Consulting Engineers; Kent Construction Focus Group; Liberty Property Trust UK, developers of Kings Hill; and construction and cost management consultants The Woodley Coles LLP. The trophies for the awards are being sponsored by Gallagher Group, the Maidstone-based civil engineering, aggregates, building and property business.
