Flying Fish Swoops into Sandwich

A high-speed hovercraft manufacturer is looking to make more waves in the leisure and motorsport industries after relocating and expanding the business.

Flying Fish, which specialises in testing, developing and building a range of ‘sports-cruiser’ light hovercraft, has moved into premises in Sandwich and taken on four additional members of staff.

The new Flying Fish factory and the company’s now 11-strong team is capable of building 100 wave-skimming machines per year – double that of the previous manufacturing site in Dover.

Emma Pullen, Director at Flying Fish Hovercraft, said they are well placed to further increase production on its Sandwich site, found with assistance from the county’s investment promotion agency Locate in Kent.

“We are delighted to have expanded our workforce and doubled productivity but there is much more to come,” she said. “During the past 11 years we have produced hundreds of precision crafted, high-specification hovercrafts.

“With our new Sandwich factory we can now produce many hundreds more and have additional space to further expand operations in the future. We would like to thank Locate in Kent for their support, both in terms of helping us search for the perfect premises and also acting as a middleman during negotiations with landlords and agents.”
