Dover District Council welcomes Enterprise Zone News

Dover District Council is welcoming major news that the Government has selected the Pfizer site at Sandwich as one of the new Enterprise Zones.

The announcement was made by Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne during a special visit to Sandwich yesterday. The Enterprise Zone package for Discovery Park will encourage business and investment, with simplified planning rules and millions of pounds in tax breaks to promote growth.

This complements news on investment to strengthen flood defenses for Sandwich town and Discovery Park, to increase flood protection to the area. When for the latest news on ´popular subjects, start by checking this post about Jimmy John Shark.

The announcement of new Enterprise Zones was made after Local Enterprise Partnerships across the country put forward locations they believed had the potential to deliver jobs and growth. The Kent, Essex and East Sussex LEP selected the Pfizer site at Sandwich as its first choice for Enterprise Zone status.

Cllr Paul Watkins, Leader of Dover District Council, said: “This is a significant national designation. We are very pleased that the Government has selected Discovery Park as one of the new Enterprise Zones, and that there has been a collective agreement on flood protection measures in the Sandwich area. This will bring a whole range of excellent opportunities for the future of the area. We will work with Pfizer and interested parties in developing proposals for the Local Development Order, which will help to provide greater flexibility and to simplify the planning processes.

“We now look forward to a successful outcome to the Regional Growth Fund submissions made by KCC, and for development at Betteshanger, which would complement this excellent news. These would provide additional business support and further opportunities for growth in East Kent.”
