Philip Gates, Richard Bourne and Bob Ratcliffe, of the Friends of Chatham Traction, have been inspecting the restoration of the Gardner engine which will power a restored 1939 Bristol K5G double-deck busregistered GKE 68.
Work on the historic engine, being undertaken at Tivoli Manufacturing, Chartham, has been supported by a £4,500 community grant from Rochester Bridge Trust.
The Friends of Chatham Traction are intending to restore the bus to full working order and celebrate the role of The Chatham& District Traction Company as a key transport provider in Medway along former tram routes from 1930 to 1955.
The bus being restored, one of 37 similar buses, spent its entire service life working from a Luton depot. It was withdrawn from service by Maidstone & District in 1955.
